engineering services planning :: Insight

The intention of Insight is to develop and support a procedure for clients whereby the building services planning becomes an enhancement to their existing planning procedures.

ESP has structured insight into two sections Procedure and Resource.

Procedure

The procedure entails understanding the planning of building services, not an actual understanding of the building services themselves. The procedure relates to "construction and M&E" not "construction vs. M&E". This does not have to incorporate the entire project, as a minimum requirement the critical M&E services throughout the basement, risers and roof need to be included.

The mechanics of this procedure involves an interpretation of ESP's template programmes for a particular project. Whereby the template programmes would be modified accordingly to integrate within the parameters of that project, i.e. constraints, logistics, construction programme etc.

The procedure would be carried out in three parts:

It would be preferable if Part 1 was undertaken prior to the award of the M&E sub-contractors in order to ensure their participation for both the development and monitoring.  However, the procedure could still be implemented once a project had commenced.

ESP can provide further detailed information regarding this procedure, or a brief presentation if required.

Resource

The resource would most likely be a member of the client's staff who would work with ESP in the development of the procedure, with the intention of them ultimately preparing and executing this procedure themselves.

The role of the resource would be in a planning capacity, collating the progress information from the M&E sub-contractors and construction team.

ESP would provide an understanding of the building services.  Not how they work, but what they do and how they fit together in a planning sense.  This would be done on a practical basis combined with ESP's own "A Guide to M&E Building Services Planning" manual.

ESP would also provide the necessary support and information for the development and setting up of the progress schedules.

Resource support for project planning & monitoring could still be provided for clients not wishing to take advantage of ESP’s Insight procedure.
